Shelduck Farm Oatcakes began with a love story. It’s a long story in which an old oatcake recipe traversed the world, from Scotland to Queensland to Tasmania. In 2021, Sally decided to dust off the recipe and build on it to create her range of Shelduck Farm Oatcakes. Sally has now handed her rolling pin and recipe on to her daughter, Jessie to continue the tradition into the future.
History tells us that when Scottish clans were traveling they would carry a sack of oatmeal and a tin plate. The oatmeal would be mixed with some water, flattened out on the plate and sat on the fire to cook. Oatcake!
Shelduck Farm Oatcakes began with the Original (albeit slightly more sophisticated than those from history!), before Sally began experimenting with produce from her garden. We now offers Original, Tasmanian Native Pepperberry, Rosemary and Fennel Oatcakes.
Sally and Jessie make the Oatcakes in Sally’s farmhouse kitchen in the beautiful Meander Valley, which are then sold throughout Tasmania and the rest of Australia.
Original
The ‘OG’ Shelduck Farm Traditional Farmhouse Oatcake! These oatcakes are the perfect blank slate for your flavour experiments. Try them paired with cheeses, or a generous lick of butter and honey.
Made with Tasmanian and Australian ingredients, each oatcake is hand embossed with our Shelduck logo. They are suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
Ingredients: oats, water, olive oil, salt.
Our Traditional Farmhouse Oatcakes with Pepperberry were our second product to be launched and are now one of our most popular.
Each batch of oatcakes is handmade using pepperberries grown in Sally’s garden, and dried in her kitchen. We love this merging of Scottish and Tasmanian flavours, adding just a hint of pepper to your cheeseboard. Every oatcake is unique, some with more coarsely ground pepperberries and some finer. This creates a natural variation in appearance with the pepperberry oatcakes.
Like the Traditional Farmhouse Oatcakes they are delicious paired with cheese and other condiments such as honey, quince paste and chutneys. Each oatcake is hand embossed with our Shelduck logo which adds that extra special touch to your cheese platter.
